Brief History of the Mass Communication Department

The Lagos State Polytechnic was established in 1977, but it was not until the year 2000 that the Department of Mass Communication came to be in the School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS) at its Isolo Campus.

However, in May 2006, the Department moved to the Institution’s permanent Campus in Ikorodu where a modern and befitting Broadcast Studio was built for the programme.

The coming to be of the Department is a function of the efforts of the Rector of the Institution, Engineer Olawunmi Anthony Gasper, FNSE with the support of his management team, especially the then Deputy Rector, Mrs. Toyin Ogundele and the Acting Deputy Rector, Mr. Nurudeen Bashorun, Acting Registrar, Princess Adetope Kosoko; Public Relations officer of the School, Mr. Lanre Kuye, and other members of the Internal and External staff, as well as other well wishers of the Institution.
